Implementation Stages


Stage I: Designing hardware infrastructure and acquiring the equipment (01.05.06 – 30.09.06)

A I.1: Definition of the work plan, task assignment (01.05.06 – 10.05.06) A I.2: Studying and analyzing present status and researches concerning hardware/software systems used by complex, GRID based applications (10.05.06 – 30.06.06) Results: A research report on the current status of hardware/software systems used in complex applications, The design of the hardware infrastructure. Task assignment for each partner: Each partner will conduct studies and will analyze the present research status in the areas involved in the GRAI project. Assignment is as follows: UTI-CE – GRID systems and services, VLSI design optimizations, Optimizations and predictions in logistics and economics; UAIC-I – basic GRID services; UMF-B – GRID applications used in biomedical engineering and epidemiology; USAMV-H – GRID applications used in horticulture, AR-IIT – Economic and social processes.
A I.3 Hardware design for the virtual university (01.07.06 – 31.08.06) Results: Hardware infrastructure design, Detailed schematics and technical specifications of the local networks and of the consortium computer network. Task assignment for each partner: UTI-CE will design the consortium computer network; each partner – assisted by UTI-CE – will design its own computer network.
A I.4 Acquiring of hardware equipments (01.09.06 – 25.09.06) Results: Computers and network equipment. Task assignment for partners: Each partner will acquire computers and network equipments for the local network and UTI-CE will coordinate the acquisition.

Stage II: Implementation of hardware infrastructure and designing software infrastructure (01.10.06 – 28.02.07)

A II.1 Definition of the work plan, task assignment (01.10.06 – 10.10.06)
A II.2 Starting and interconnecting computing systems (05.10.06 – 31.01.07) Results: A functional computer network for the consortium. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE will coordinate the starting and the interconnecting of consortium partners’ local networks, each partner will start his own computer network.
A II.3 Definition and design of basic services (01.10.06 – 15.02.07) Results: Detailed specifications of the GRID services. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE – Definition and design of GRID services used in data mining, multi-agent platform development, image processing, combinatorial optimization, semantic Web, natural language processing, E-learning, the monitoring of epidemiological evolution, the modelling of abstract “populations”, optimization in VLSI design, optimization and prediction in logistic and economics. UAIC-I – Definition and design of GRID services used in combinatorial optimization, problem solving for constraint based programming (CSP), evolutional calculus methods, web semantic, natural language processing, e-learning; UMF-B – Definition and design of GRID services used in monitoring and modelling of epidemiological evolution of the diverse maladies, based on data collection, applications for biomedical informatics; USAMV-H – Definition and design of GRID services used in monitoring and modelling of soil evolution, e-learning applications, E-learning; AR-IIT - modelling of abstract “populations”, modelling, using large (2D networks) neuro-fuzzy systems, of some regional economic and social processes, modelling, using large (2D and 3D) finite differences equation systems, of some geo-physical processes (flooding, soil modifications, other processes that endanger regional security).
A II.4 Result dissemination for stages I and II (01.10.06 – 20.02.07) Results: Research reports, published scientific articles, scientific communication sessions, workshops. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE – Gathering and disseminating results, organizing workshops on project’s thematic. All partners: elaborating research reports, publishing research reports.

Stage III: Implementation of software infrastructure (01.03.07 – 31.12.07)

A III.1: Definition of the work plan, task assignment (01.03.07 – 15.03.07)
A III.2: Implementation and testing Globus Toolkit software environment (supplied by Globus Alliance) for developing of GRID systems and applications (10.03.07 – 31.04.07) Results: A functional Globus Toolkit, tested and demonstrative services. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE – installing and configuring Globus toolkit for the consortium computer network. All partners – testing of demonstrative GRID services.
A III.3: Service coding (01.04.07 – 30.09.07) Results: Source codes of basic GRID services. Task assignment for partners: coding of previously designed services.
A III.4 Implementing and testing of coded services (01.10.07 – 20.12.07) Results: Functional basic GRID services. Task assignment for partners: Each partner will implement and test services coded by their research team.
A III.5 Stage III result dissemination (10.03.07 – 20.12.07) Results: Research reports, published scientific papers, and scientific workshops. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE – Gathering and disseminating research results, organizing of workshops on project’s thematic. All partners - elaborating research reports, publishing research reports.

Stage IV: Developing new GRID services. Experiments. Result dissemination (01.01.08 – 31.08.08)

A IV.1: Definition of the work plan, task assignment (01.01.08 – 15.01.08)
A IV.2: Dynamic integration of new GRID services (20.01.08 – 15.07.08) Results: Dynamically developed GRID services. Task assignment for partners: dynamic integration of new GRID services for target domains.
A IV.3: Experiments, case studies (20.01.08 – 15.07.08) Results: conclusions and experiment interpretation. Task assignment for partners: Each partner will conduct experiments and case studies concerning his target area, on the academic GRID.
A IV.4: Project result dissemination and developing of tutorials for potential GRID users (20.01.08 – 31.08.08) Results: Research reports, Published scientific books and articles, scientific workshops, tutorial courses and classes. Task assignment for partners: UTI-CE – Gathering and disseminating results, organizing workshops on GRID thematic. Each partner will participate in information transfer and will publish research results.
